The entry level position is:

Health Services 170 - Student Medical Support Trainee

All Student Support Staff are required to:

  • All student workers will be expected to adhere to university guidelines regarding public health safety measures
  • Be flexible and adaptable in an ever-changing work environment
  • Strive to create a sense of welcome and inclusivity by accurately directing patients and visitors to the services and resources that SHaW offers
  • Support efficient care delivery by the healthcare team in a respectful manner to our diverse student population
  • Comply with strict patient confidentiality guidelines at all times
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings
  • Have strong patient service and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Work for a minimum of 2 years

Possible duties assigned to Student Support Staff:

  • Maintain supplies and stocking of equipment in examining rooms and offices
  • Welcome and assist with patient flow at asymptomatic care sites
  • Run point of care lab tests
  • Perform light cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of examining rooms and patient care areas
  • Wash, sterilize, and prepare equipment
  • Assisting with phone calls
  • Transporting students for care throughout the SHaW system
  • Additional responsibilities may be delegated by professional staff
  • May need to work evenings, nights, and weekends

Trainees have the opportunity to advance to HS270-Student Medical Support Assistant, then to HS370-Student Medical Support Specialist.
